Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, held a meeting with the Ambassador of Qatar, Sheikh Saud bin Abdul Rahman bin Faisal al-Sani. The Ambassador of Qatar has also informed about several activities that are being undertaken to further enhance the fraternal ties between both the nations of Qatar and Pakistan.
Pakistani Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif has recalled the fraternal ties based on the shared values between the two nations. He has mentioned that the mutual commitment of both sides to convert these strong relations into mutually beneficial economic relations. PM Sharif also said historic deluge in 2022.
During the meeting, he has also extended thanks to Qatar for the aid of the people of Pakistan on the basis of humanitarian sympathy.
Meanwhile, the ambassador of Qatar has also extended thanks to the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for further promoting fraternal bilateral ties and has assured the cooperation of Qatar in this regard.
Bilateral ties between Pakistan and Qatar:
The relations between Pakistan and Qatar are generally shaped by the close ties of Pakistan with the Arab world. Like other nearby gulf nations, there is also a large community of Pakistanis residing in Qatar, which numbers up to 150,000. They are working in diverse fields as well as send remittances each year. At the time of the 2010 Pakistan floods, Qatar has provided timely help to the nation.
It is to be noted that a deal was inked by the governments of two nations in December 2015 in which Qatar has agreed to supply Pakistan with over $16 billion of LNG over a lengthy period.
Moreover, in the month of June 2019, Qatar has made an announcement to invest $3 billion in Pakistan, in the form of deposits and direct investments. The economic ties between both the nations is expected to reach $9 billion once the investment is done.
