Arshad Sharif- a Pakistani journalist who was shot and killed amid mysterious circumstances by Nairobi police in Kenya on Sunday last week, was laid to rest at the H-11 graveyard in capital city of Islamabad on Thursday with over hundreds of people in attendance.
Police teams were heavily deployed at the graveyard, where journalists & members of civil society reached in big numbers and during the burial ceremony of slain journalist Sharif, slogans of “Allahu Akbar” were chanted.
After this, Pakistan Army personnel paid tribute to the slain journalist & a garland from Chief of Army Staff Qamar Javed Bajwa was laid at his grave.
Earlier, the funeral prayers of Sharif were offered at Shah Faisal Mosque. A big number of journalists, politicians as well as civil society members, including Shibli Faraz, Azam Swati, Murad Saeed, Kashif Abbasi, Faisal Karim Kundi, Waseem Badami along with Sami Ibrahim, took part in the funeral prayers in the capital city.
As per witnesses, “Around 20,000 people took part in the funeral while thousands of others gathered outside the Faisal Mosque.”

The mystery rounds across the whole situation that led to death of Arshad Sharif. Several Pakistani media outlets reported that Sharif had been shot at but then said he died in an accident. Sharif’s wife later tweeted about his death after being shot.
Whereas, the local media of Kenya earlier quoted the local police by saying that Sharif was shot and killed by police in a case of “mistaken identity.” It added that the incident took place on the night of Sunday along the Nairobi-Magadi highway.
At the same time, the national police service of Kenya has issued a statement adding that the incident took place along the Kwenia farm road within Magadi, where a “foreigner with the name of Arshad Sharif, who is a Pakistani national aged around 50-year-old was fatally injured by a police official while a passenger in a vehicle KDG 200M.”
