Most of the parts across Pakistan to experience severe heatwaves over the coming 10 days. The warning has been released by the Meteorological Department on Thursday. It has also forecasted dust storms, thunderstorms and heavy rains in the northern areas.
The presence of high pressure in the upper atmosphere will result in heatwave conditions in most parts of the nation, mainly in the Punjab and Sindh from May 21 and severe heatwave from May 23 to 27. The above mentioned warning has also been released by the advisory.
It is to be added that, temperature during the daytime will likely to remain 4-6°C above normal’ in Sindh and Punjab from May 21-23 and 6-8°C from May 23-27.
In Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Baltistan, and Balochistan, temperature during the day time are likely to remain 4-6°C above normal from May 21 to 27.
The advisory also want the authorities to remain vigilant and to take required steps to deal with the heatwave.
Whereas, the director of Research and Development at the PMD in Islamabad, Dr Muhammad Afzal, defined the heatwave as temperatures 5°C above the normal limit for three or more days.
The Met office advisory stated that a shallow westerly wave was likely to affect upper parts of the nation on May 16 during the evening and night.
At the same time, dust storm and thunderstorm with isolated rain were expected in Quetta, Zhob, Ziarat, Sherani, Barkhan, Kalat, Khuzdar, Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah, Kharan and Mastung from May 16 to 19.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, same kind of weather conditions is expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Malakand, Waziristan, Kohat, Lakki Marwat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Bajaur, Mohmand, Karak, Khyber, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan, and Kurram from May 16 to 19.
The Met Office as made warning to the farmers of possible impacts on the crops and made an advisory for them to make arrangements. The authorities have also advised people to avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight and drink water.
