In a disturbing incident reported on Thursday night, suspected militants attacked and set the government higher secondary school for girls on fire. It is to be noted that, the incident took place in Kotka Mambati Barakzai area of Bannu.
A police official concerned with the incident, said that the school was located in Miryan tehsil. He added that the attackers set the science lab and equipment dumped there on fire.
According to the official, “The laboratory and the staffroom along with the furniture and other objects were destroyed.” Reporting further on this, police official added that the militants also took away the solar power system and the other goods with them, leaving behind a note affixed to the school gate, warning of dire consequences if it was opened.
It is to be hereby added that, schools in the area are closed mainly because of the winter vacation.
This is the first school having been set on fire in the district since the spike in the militant attacks when a ceasefire between the government and the outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan ended during the past year.
After the incident was reported, the police have rushed to the school and gathered evidence from the site of the incident.
At the same time, the local police officials have also ensured for the thorough investigations in the case, adding that, “The investigation were underway to trace, whosoever are behind this attack.”
