St Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis- Dr Terrance Drew, will assume the Chairmanship of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) at the 73rd meeting of OECS authority.
The meeting will be held in St Kitts and Nevis on Sunday, June 18, 2023. Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew will also deliver an address at the opening ceremony along with other major speakers. The ceremony will be started at 5: 00 pm at the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank Auditorium.
Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew took to social media and shared an update on the 42nd anniversary of OECS. He said, “The Flag Raising Ceremony will be held on Sunday, June 18, at the Zuliani Roundabout in Frigate Bay at 4:00 pm, followed by the Opening Ceremony of the 73rd Meeting of the OECS Authority at ECCB at 5:00 pm. During this time, I will announce as the new Chairman of the OECS.”
The opening ceremony will also feature the celebration of the 42nd anniversary of the sub-regional grouping (OECS). The authority came into effect on June 18, 1981. The 42nd Anniversary of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) is celebrated in Saint Kitts and Nevis from June 13-19, 2023, under the theme ‘Vision. Integration. Sustainability.
The OECS meetings will feature significant discussions on several matters of concern. PM Terrance Drew and his colleagues will put a major focus on the issues of the small island nations and outline several plans to strengthen the relations between the countries in the region.
The intergovernmental organization- OECS has been formed with the aim of promoting regional integration in the Eastern Caribbean. Regional integration is the concept that talks about the persuasion of similar goals between neighbouring countries that share physical or cultural characteristics. Hence, the Caribbean region joined forces to work on the goals such as facilitating trade, exchanging resources, and solving problems collectively.
