Roseau, Dominica: Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit shared glimpses of his tour of the international airport construction site in Wesley last week. He stated that the visit was fruitful, and their engagement with the media persons outlined several significant aspects of the airport project.
PM Roosevelt Skerrit took to Facebook and expressed pleasure. He said that he was happy to engage the members of the local media during the tour of the international airport construction site in Wesley last week. They were joined by members of the Cabinet and Parliament; members of the Board of Directors of the International Airport Development Company; and officials of Montreal Management Consultants (MMCE) and the contracting firm, CR5.
They visited the Joe Burton Housing Development, where Government has constructed 31 houses for homeowners affected by the construction of the international airport. The development includes the construction of 1,100M of roads, drains and sidewalks; installation of underground connections for utilities; provision of water connection to buildings; and the construction of a 500,000-gallon water tank to serve Joe Burton and the greater Wesley community.
Outlining several other projects, PM Roosevelt Skerrit asserted that the new laboratory is fully equipped for quality control and quality assurance tests associated with the airport development project, including soils, concrete and asphalt testing. Talking about geothermal project, PM Roosevelt Skerrit said that Geotechnical surveys and soil analysis are being undertaken by a cadre of qualified engineers attached to the international airport project.
“We also made a stop at the site for the Batching Plant where allocation has been made for offices, storerooms, washrooms/toilets, workshops, warehouses, dormitories, aggregate stockpiling area, reinforcement yard, concrete silos, bitumen production area and parking area,” said the prime minister.
He promised that the Government of Dominica will continue regular engagement with the media to ensure the public is kept fully informed of the progress of the international airport project.
During the engagement with the media people, PM Roosevelt Skerrit referred to the construction of the massive project as an important plan in the efforts for the development of the country. He said that the project will create new and several opportunities for local people associated with the agriculture and hospitality industry. Prime Minister Skerrit said that as there are many workers related to the project, there will be a constant need for products such as vegetables, eggs, fish and other commodities.
