The Caretaker Prime Minister of Pakistan, Anwar ul Haq Kakar held meeting with the newly appointed Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Arshad Hussain Shah, for providing overall assistance to the Election Commission in order to hold free and fair election across provinces.
It is to be noted that, the details about the meeting has been shared by the PM Kakar. It was the first meeting between CM Shah and PM Kakar.
Arshad Hussain Shah takes charge after his predecessor, Azam Khan, died of a heart attack on November 11.
As per the Prime Minister’s Office, “PM Kakar and CM Shah held discussion on the upcoming general elections and the province’s administrative matters. During the meeting, PM Kakar and Shah discussed various key issues, including the upcoming general elections and administrative affairs of the province. They also reviewed KP’s law and order situation and measures to combat smuggling.”
PM Kakar expressed congratulations to CM Shah on assuming his new office and expressed wishes for his tenure ahead.
In a separate meeting held to review the Higher Education Commission’s (HEC) performance, PM Kakar directed the officials to figure out a mechanism to get the funding from the IT and pharmaceutical sectors for supporting research initiatives.
He said that, “They would have to extend the facility of stipends in the science and engineering subject to promote the human and technical resources.”
PM Kakar, during the meeting, also briefed on the strategy between the academia and the industry for collaboration. He also called for a joint meeting of all the provincial authorities to resolve the education-related matters.
He highlighted the need for bringing higher education to the nation in conformity with contemporary and economic needs and called for the introduction of scholarships in technical and scientific subjects according to global requirements.
At the same time, PM Kakar was briefed about the higher education, students’ scholarship, universities, and other related issues.
“So far, more than 20,000 scholarships have been awarded for PhD since the inception of HEC,” an official said.
