The President of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Sylvanie Burton, successfully concluded her first official overseas engagement. The information about the above mentioned has been shared by the Office of the President.
It is to be noted that, on two-day visit to the French Department of Guadeloupe, which took place from December 13 to December 15, 2023, was the first foreign visit of the President Burton from the time since she assumed the office.
The visit from President Burton came upon an invitation extended by businessman and the President of the Arawak Beach Resort, Dr Pierre Sainte-Luce.
During the visit, President Burton took part as a special guest at the unveiling of a fresco at the Arawak Beach Resort. The fresco showcases the establishment of close ties between the Arawak Beach Resort and the Kalinago community of Guadeloupe and Dominica. Kalinago Chief Lorenzo Sanford and the representatives of the Kalina Gwada Association were also present during the ceremony.
President Burton also held meeting with the senior government officials of Guadeloupe, cultural and medical professionals, entrepreneurs, and the Kalina Gwada Associations.
She also held talks with them, which are expected to further empowering the bilateral relations between Dominica and Guadeloupe, and looking for new avenues for cooperation in areas like arts and culture, health, trade, tourism and entrepreneurship.
As per the information shared by the Office of the President of Dominica, “The visit to Guadeloupe will help further in empowering the friendly ties which have long existed between the Dominica and the neighbouring French territory of Guadeloupe, and also provides the opportunity to explore new and better means to improve and deepen the bilateral cooperation of mutual benefit in areas like arts and culture, health, trade, tourism and entrepreneurship.”
During the visit to Guadeloupe, President Burton was accompanied by her spouse Gilbert, President’s Aide-de-Camp, Inspector Valda Powell, and President’s Secretary, Miss Donille Blackmoore. Meanwhile, during the absence, the office of President was held by retired Business Manager, Nathalie Sampson.
