Calling for the protest against former provincial minister, Mohammad Iqbal Wazir, the Uthmanzai jirga on Sunday has set his car on fire. Not just limited to this, they have also fined him Rs2 million for ‘violating’ the jirga traditions.
It is to be noted that, former minister, Mohammad Iqbal Wazir has joined the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Parliamentarians and is the candidate of the party for the PK-103.
Meanwhile, the Uthmanzai jirga elders of Shewah tehsil of North Waziristan said that the former provincial minister for relief and resettlement had violated the jirga traditions by not taking part in a protest for pressing the government for acceptance of their demands for peace and bringing an end to the targeted killings.
The leaders of the jirga said that the former minister had been warned many a times to take part in the jirga and clear his stance about the charges levelled against him, but to no avail.
It merits a mention here that Uthmanzai tribes have been launching the protest for the last seven months in order to force the government to accept their demands, including restoration of peace, bringing and end to target killings and asking the security forces to vacate seminaries.
The jirga had asked the former minister for supporting them during their protest campaign against the government. Whereas, he was hesitant to take participation during their protest. Therefore, the jirga had made decision to impose the penalty on him for violating the jirga traditions.
The jirga had initially imposed Rs5 million fine on him and also torched his two vehicles, but later on the request of Kabalkhel tribe, the jirga decreased the penalty to Rs2m.
