Roseau, Dominica: Prime Minister of Dominica- Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, expressed delight with the performance of Alick Athanaze on the first day of the match of the test series between India and the West Indies.
He took to social media and said that his performance had made the entire Dominica proud. PM Roosevelt Skerrit said that the performance was the result of Maturity, composure and flair.
Notably, Alick Athanaze made his test debut against India on Wednesday in the WI vs IND first match. The first match of the test series started at Windsor Park Sports Stadium, Roseau.
PM Roosevelt Skerrit said, “Maturity, composure and flair. Alick Athanaze thrills on his test debut at Windsor Park, scoring an impressive 47 against India. WI are proud.”
Denise Charles- Minister of Tourism of Dominica, said, “Congratulations. Alick Athanaze! You made us Proud.”
The Ministry of Tourism also shared snapshots of the performance of Alick Athanaze and said, “What a phenomenal debut by Dominica’s Cricketer Alick Athanaze. He showcased his skills on the field today, scoring a magnificent 47 runs against Team Indian in the first Test Match in Dominica.”
It said that Alick made Dominica Proud Today. “Keep shining, Alick! The entire nation is cheering for you, “The Facebook page of the ministry emphasised.
Before the match, WI Men’s Lead Selector and WI Legend, Dr Desmond Haynes, present Alick Athanaze with his debut Test cap in front of his home crowd in Dominica.
Dr Vince Henderson said, “We are proud of you Alick…. Grand Bay forever.”
Alick Athanaze lived and grew up in Grand Bay, Dominica. The 24-year-old cricketing prodigy was a past Pierre Charles Secondary School student.
For his love of the sport, from age 9, he was first introduced to competitive cricket by participating in a community league, namely the Lambert Henderson League. He was among the seniors on the team and learned the game’s rules. This experience set the path for his cricket career.
