Heavy rainfall hit the city and broke a 20-year monsoon season record of the heaviest rains on Thursday. The continuous 7 hours of rainfall has entered into most of the city’s localities but rainwater was drained out from all main city roads within a few hours after the rain stopped.
During this, approximately three persons were killed and three others were wounded in multiple incidents reported of roof collapse. Two people died during the roof collapsed in a workshop in Daroghawala reportedly because of rain. Resulting which, two persons were trapped under debris.
Meanwhile, the rescue operation was launched after the incident reporters in which a body and a survivor were pulled out from the debris. The deceased has been identified as Asim Hafeez, 44. The injured has been identified as Faiz Sattar, 45, who was rushed to the hospital for medical assistance but later succumbed to the injuries.
Whereas, in another incident reported a man was killed and three others wounded after roof a house collapsed near Eidgah in Salamatpura region. The deceased was identified as Farhan, ageing 24-years-old and the wounded has been identified as Ahmad Ali 2, who was rushed to health care centre while two injured were treated on the spot. The bodies were shifted to morgue.
The rain started on early Wednesday and continued until Thursday evening in different time spans as well as turned all major roads, green belts and open places into mini pools and kept on the civic authorities on toes to drain out the rainwater. A large number of motorcyclists took shelter under the underpasses of the city which results in traffic jams. Rainwater was also collected in several low lying areas and caused heavy inconvenience for the citizens.
