Kolai-Palas police in Kohistan has detained three members of the jirga who had made decision to take the drastic step of ending the life of a young girl after the circulation of video over social media.
The details about the detention of three suspects has been shared by the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Masood Khan, emphasizing on the ongoing efforts to arrest others who had advised the family of the girl to carry out this horrific act in response to the viral video.
Notably, the convicts, which includes two paternal uncles of the victim, will be facing trail as they will be presented before the local magistrate for the physical remand.
As per the statement made by the DSP Masood Khan, “The police force was actively conducting raids, mainly in the mountainous Barsharyal region of Kohistan, just in order to trace and arrest all the individuals that were part in either murder or contributing to the jirga’s decision-making process.”
The father of the victim, who was earlier taken into custody has now been handed over to the police by the magistrate on a seven-day remand.
DSP Masood Khan said that police also produced one of the young men, who could be seen with the slain girl in the video, before the magistrate of the area and recorded his statement under Section 164 of the Code of the Criminal Procedure.
Official concerned with the case said that, the young man said that he is having no idea who uploaded this video or for what purpose.
As per the statement issued by the DIG Hazara Circle office, “Police were actively pursuing the case and the contingent of the police was still present in the mountainous Sharyal village for more arrests.”
Amidst the investigation, the Federal Investigation Agency’s Cybercrime wing has actively stepped in to verify the authenticity, origin, owner and operator of the Facebook account responsible for uploading the video.
FIA Cybercrime Deputy Director Mohammad Asif said a thorough inquiry would be conducted to uncover the motive behind uploading the video.
He said that the video that was made up of photos uploaded on a single account.
