Roseau, Dominica: Prime Minister of Dominica- Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, held cordial discussions on Tuesday with Prime Minister Han Duck Soo of South Korea on the sidelines of the CARICOM Heads of Government meeting in Trinidad.
Foreign Affairs Minister Dr Vince Henderson also participated in the talks. Several matters of concern were discussed in the meeting. Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit assumed the chairmanship of the CARICOM.
PM Roosevelt Skerrit also addressed the meeting and shared his vision for the Caribbean Community.
The meeting shed light upon the ways and plans of the government in the areas such as renewable energy, digitization and the use of technology such as cameras and security sensors that can be integrated into our national security framework, among other things.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Skerrit outlined that Dominica is keen to strengthen their bilateral cooperation with South Korea in the above-mentioned projects. He said that the government also wanted to increase their ties on several development projects.
The meeting was held during the 45th CARICOM Head of Government conference in Trinidad. The conference marked 50 the Anniversary of the founding of CARICOM. Along with that, the Prime Minister of South Korean Han Duck Soo has also attended the meeting in Trinidad from July 3 to July 5, 2023.
Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs, Kim Gunn, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, Oh Dongil and Chief of Staff to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea, Park Sung Keun also accompanied the Prime Minister of Korea to the meeting.
During the plenary sessions of the CARICOM meeting, regional leaders focussed on many critical issues, including the CARICOM Single Market and Economy and expanding the free movement of people, climate change and finance, the regional coordination ahead of COP 28 and food security and the ongoing efforts to reduce food imports by 25 percent by 2025.
