The Caretaker Prime Minister of Pakistan, Anwar ul Haq Kakar, participated in the 2nd meeting of the Pakistan Climate Change Council in Islamabad.
During the meeting, the Caretaker PM Kakar, held talks on major issues including the climate change. Noting to which, he said that, “The climate change is a national security issue for developing countries like Pakistan. Pakistan’s share in global climate change is less than one percent, but Pakistan is at the top of the most affected countries. Last year, one third of Pakistan’s population was affected by floods as a result of climate change.”
PM Kakar, added that, “Pakistan as well as other developing nations affected by the climate change are suffering from these threats only due to the developed nations. Developing nations across the world need measures to protect themselves from threats posed by the climate change.
He mentioned that, “The Ministry of Climate Change and Pakistan’s activists who raised their voices regarding climate change are worthy of praise for their initiatives in this field. To protect the provinces from the harmful effects of climate change, cooperation with the federation and their own initiatives are also valuable.”
Furthermore, the Prime Minister Kakar, said that, “Pakistan will vigorously present its case in the COP-28 held in UAE this month. PM Kakar directed that the Ministry of Climate Change should send a delegation of climate change experts to take part in the COP-28 after consultation with all provincial governments.
While continuing further on this, the Caretaker Prime Minister of Pakistan, Anwar ul Haq Kakar, said that, Pakistan will vigorously put the case of countries affected by climate change before the UN.
Along with this, he has also approved the formation of a committee of experts from the Pakistan Climate Change Council under the Ministry of Climate Change. The Committee will be working for creation of a comprehensive policy framework for the formation and the trading of carbon credits market in Pakistan and to make it more efficient and effective.
