The caretaker Information Minister of Balochistan, Jan Achakzai, on Wednesday has proposed a set of counterterrorism measures. The proposed set of measures includes offering the United States “drone bases to target militant sanctuaries in Afghanistan.”
It is to be noted that, the proposal from Minister Achakzai came a day after the deadly attack in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Dera Ismail Khan, which has claimed the lives of 23 Pakistani troops.
The minister has shared the series of counterterrorism measures, noting that issuing a demarche to the government of Afghanistan was insufficient and stressed the need for more strict measures.
Notably, in the deadliest attack recorded for this year on the Pakistani security forces, around 23 Pakistani army troops were martyred and more than 30 troops injured after militants of the Tehreek-i-Jihad Pakistan (TJP) attacked a compound used by the military in Dera Ismail Khan’s Daraban area, in the early hours of Tuesday. Around 25 soldiers were martyred in the attack and security operations in Dera Ismail Khan.
Six militants who have launched the attack on the building were killed. Apart from this, two military operations in Darazinda and Kolachi resulted in the death of 21 militants and claimed the lives of two soldiers. The information about the above mentioned has been shared by the military wing in the statement.
The Tehreek-i-Jihad Pakistan (TJP) has claimed the responsibility for the attack and also released a two minute video, purporting to show militants targeting security personnel with the thermal scopes. Security officials, however, claimed the video was not authentic.
Later on, Pakistan demanded immediate and verifiable actions from the government of Afghanistan against militant outfits instigate terror in Pakistan, as it issued a demarche to Afghan Charge d’Affaires Sardar Ahmad Shakib.
At the same time, the Foreign Secretary, Syrus Sajjad Qazi, emphasized on the need for calling a thorough investigation against the perpetrators of recent attack.
Pakistan demand action against all terrorist groups, including their leadership and sanctuaries. The foreign secretary insisted on the extradition and arrest of the perpetrators as well as the leaders of the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban (TTP) from Afghanistan.
