The air quality across the city of Lahore continuous to get severe and severe on Tuesday morning, wiping the improvements recorded during the last five days of normal air quality.
It is to be noted that, after 5 days of relief, the air quality index which is recorded at 401 on Tuesday morning has made it extremely unsafe for breathing.
As per the data shared by the iqair.com, the situation have made a slight turn during the afternoon, with the AQI dropping to 188 by 7pm. Whereas, hopes for the improvement fell down after the air quality made a turn towards worsening again, registering an AQI of 236 at 9pm.
The recent spike in the level of smog across the city has made significant contribution in making Lahore as among the most polluted cities globally.
Notably, Lahore has been experiencing a decline in air quality rates mainly during the winter period of October to February. During this time period, farmers around Punjab belt burn crop remains, which is one of the major contributors to the rising level of smog. Change in weather conditions is another factor responsible in this.
Considerably, the major contributions to the air pollution in Lahore includes emissions from industries and vehicles, burning of crop remains, and dust from the construction sites. Whereas, the cutting of trees for the infrastructure development is another big reason in this sudden drop of AQI.
Keeping in mind the deteriorating levels of air quality across Lahore and other cities across Pakistan, the experts are making different statements and suggestions to put a stop at the rising air pollution levels. One of such suggestions added that, individuals must be aware of the level of pollution that they are exposed to, they can take informed steps in order to protect themselves and contribute towards the efforts to combat the air pollution.
Moreover, the authorities concerned with the above-mentioned case are keeping a regular eye on the air quality and are also enforcing the measures in order to curb the growing pollution rates. They are also currently putting in efforts for addressing the main reasons of the air pollution.
