The Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, has shared an update regarding taking part in the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) from December 1 to December 2, 2023. It is to be noted that, PM Skerrit will directly arrive in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where the COP28 is set to take place.
During the participation at the high level segment of the COP28, Prime Minister, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit will also deliver an address, and will also take part in the ceremony to announce the support of Green Climate Fund to the Blue Co. Caribbean Umbrella Coordination Programme on December 1.
It is to be hereby added that, the 28th edition of the United Nations Conference of Parties (COP) forms part of the UN Climate Change Conference, which will take place from November 30 to December 12. The annual climate conference during this year will deliberate on the Global Stocktake with the nations reporting on the measures.
The above mentioned measures includes the plans and steps taken by the nations to achieve the goals of the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement and the Loss and Damages Fund, set up to compensate the most vulnerable nations, that are currently bearing the brunt of climate change.
It is to be specifically mentioned that, the conference of the parties (COP) has been held annually since the first UN Climate Agreement in 1992. Moreover, the Conference of the Parties (COP) are mainly intended for the governments to agree on the policies to limit the continuously increasing global mercury levels and adapt to impacts that are linked with the climate change.
During the time of Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit’s UAE visit, the Minister of Finance, Economic Development, Climate Resilience and Social Security of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Dr Irving McIntyre will be serving as the Acting Prime Minister of the nation.
