Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) on Wednesday has released a statement that two of its boxers went missing following the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. The Federation has disclosed that two of its boxers went two hours before boarding the flight for Islamabad.
Whereas, the travelling documents of both the athletes are still with the officials. Notably, the 2022 Commonwealth Games have been concluded on Monday and the participating teams have started returning back to their home nations.
While confirming about the news, PBF Secretary Nasir Tang said that two boxers Suleman Baloch and Nazeerullah gone missing hours before the team’s departure for Islamabad.
Tang further added that the Federation had informed the Pakistan High Commission in the UK and other relevant authorities about the missing of the two athletes. Following which, the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) has formed a four-member committee to investigate into the matter.
Tang asserted, “The travel documents including their passports are still with federation officials who were there along with the boxing team to the games.”
It should be mentioned that this is not the first such incident where athletes from Pakistan have gone missing. Two months ago, a national-level swimmer Faizan Akbar went missing while competing in the FINA World Championship in Hungary. Akbar didn’t even come to take part in the championship. He went missing with his passport and other documents just hours following landing in Budapest. He could not be seen since June.
