Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis: Dr Geoffrey Hanley- Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth, Social Development, Gender Affairs, Aging and Disabilities of St Kitts and Nevis visited with a delegation to the Republic of China (Taiwan) on Saturday, May 6, 2023.
The authorities of the Republic of China (Taiwan) extended an invitation to the Deputy Prime Minister for his first official visit to Taiwan as an extension of the state visit by the Prime Minister, Dr Terrance Drew last year November.
The Republic of China (Taiwan) and St Kitts and Nevis established official diplomatic relations in 1983. Both countries have enjoyed close cooperation and exchanges in numerous areas, including, education, social development, agriculture, medicine and public health, renewable energy, and information and communications technology.
During his trip, Deputy Prime Minister Hanley will meet with Taiwan Vice President Lai Ching-te to exchange views on bilateral cooperation concerns. Minister Hanley will also meet with Foreign Minister Joseph Wu and attend a banquet hosted by the Foreign Minister. The delegation will also visit several schools, industries, a Wind Farm, an electric bus manufacturer, the National Palace Museum and other cultural and economic sites.
The Deputy Prime Minister leads a delegation of Government Officials which includes Minister of Public Infrastructure and Utilities, Transport, Information, Communication and Technology and Post- Konris Maynard, ; Ambassador Kenneth Douglas; Ambassador Leon Natta-Nelson; Mrs. Lisa-Romayne Pistana, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education; and Mr. Leonard Lestrade, Compliance Officer/ Land Officer/ Forestry Ranger in the Ministry of Agriculture.
The delegation returns to the Federation on Saturday 13th May 2023.
Tourism Minister of St Kitts and Nevis- Marsha Henderson will assume the role of Acting Prime Minister of the twin island Federation in the absence of the Prime Minister, Dr Terrance Drew, who returns to the Federation from his visit to the United Kingdom for the Coronation Ceremony of King Charles III, on Wednesday 10th May 2023.
