PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari were invited by PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif at his Lahore mansion on Saturday to discuss the current political situation.
As seen in footage provided by both parties, the PPP leaders arrived at Shehbaz’s Model Town mansion and were received by him, PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz, and Leader of Opposition in Punjab Assembly Hamza Shehbaz.
According to a statement released by the PPP, Zardari and Bilawal extended their best wishes for PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif’s health and inquired about Shehbaz, who had recently tested positive for the coronavirus.
In a meeting attended by Maryam Nawaz, Hamza Shehbaz, PML-N Information Secretary Marriyum Aurangzeb, PML-N leader Saad Rafique, PPP Punjab General Secretary Hassan Murtaza, and PPP’s Rukhsana Bangash, both sides addressed the country’s current condition.
Shehbaz contacted Bilawal on Friday and invited him to today’s lunchtime meeting, according to a previous report by Dawn. Officials from the PML-N claimed that the meeting was called at Nawaz’s request after the PPP phoned him many times.
They asserted that internal change would be at the forefront of the meeting’s agenda, both in the National Assembly and the Punjab Assembly.
Leaders of the PML-N claimed the PPP wanted to start the no-confidence or in-house change process in Punjab, but they also wanted to see change in the federal system.
Bilawal had applauded the opposition’s Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) for considering the option of filing a no-confidence motion against the government while speaking to reporters outside Parliament House on January 18, and said there was a high likelihood of opposition parties working together in the future.
“If they (PDM) are willing to reconsider their position on en masse resignations and consider my suggestion to bring a no-confidence motion, then there is a chance that we can work together,” the PPP chairman had remarked.
