The President of Pakistan, Dr Arif Alvi has chaired the follow-up meeting with the health officials on mental health within the nation. It is to be noted that, the details about the meeting has been shared by the President Alvi via his official social media handle.
During the meeting, President Arif Alvi held talks with health department officials about the issues related to the mental health in Pakistan. In between the talks, President Alvi has also suggested about the need for the formulation of a new mental health policy for addressing the mental health issues in Pakistan.
Along with this, he also discussed about the overall statistics showing the percent of people who are suffering from any sort of the mental illness or any alike health issues.
Considering which, the President of Pakistan, said that, “24% population of the country is currently facing various mental health issues and it requires an institutional framework and public-private partnership to provide mental health services to the people.”
At the same time, he also stated that, “Mental health is one of the major concerns for the Pakistan which requires coordinated efforts by both the public and private sectors to utilize their expertise.”
Amid the talks on the mental health, President Alvi said that, “There is a need for collective measures and an integrated approach involving various stakeholders.”
Noting to one of the recent studies, the Burden of Mental Disorders in the Eastern Mediterranean Region, 1990-2013, Pakistan and Afghanistan are witnessing spike in number of chronic illness, including mental illness as well.
It is to be hereby added that, the mental health issues is not just limited to one state or territory. But it is almost in every nook and corner of the world. Moreover, the World Health Organization (WHO) has also dedicated a special day of October 10, which is celebrated as the World Mental Health Day every year.
The day is mainly observed to eradicate the ongoing mental health issues prevailing across the globe.
