St Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis– Dr Terrance Drew announced that the government is all set to convert the home of their First National Hero Robert L Bradshaw, into a museum.
He took to Facebook and declared, “Greetings, Here at the home of our First National Hero soon to be converted into a museum.”
Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw served from 1946-1978 as the First Premier, Second Chief Minister and First National Hero of St Kitts and Nevis. He was born on September 16, 1915, in St Paul. He was sworn in as Cheif Minister after the elections of 1966 and became the first Premier of the Associated States of St Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla on February 27, 1967. He died on May 23 1978.
St Kitts/Nevis Federal Parliament passed the National Honours Act to establish a standing National Awards Committee and three classes of award. The awards are recognised as the Order of National Hero, the Star of Merit and the Metal of Honour. The Act also established a National Hero’s Day. Members of the public are able to submit nominations for the awards, which are for citizens of the Federation who have given distinguished service to their country. The Golden Rock airport was renamed, Robert L Bradshaw International Airport, Social Security Building Headquarters in Basseterre was named in his honour, Robert L Bradshaw Heroes Memorial Park in St. Paul’s and the Robert L Bradshaw Building at Windsor School of Medicine.
The decision is applauded by the citizens of St Kitts and Nevis and they extended good wishes to Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew.
