The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, held meeting with the US President’s Special Envoy for Environment and former US Secretary of State, John Kerry on the sidelines of the World Summit on the New Global Financial Agreement in France.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif along with Special Envoy John Kerry have extended good wishes for each other. The Prime Minister, during the conversation have appreciated the policies and strategies of John Kerry as well as the government of the United State on the issue of the environment.
It is to be noted that, during the talks held between Sharif and Kerry on the sidelines of the World Summit on the New Global Financial Agreement in France, PM Sharif said that, “Environmental problems are a common problem of the world for which joint strategies and efforts are required. John Kerry’s appointment of the first US president to act as a special envoy for the environment in US history is a recognition of the importance of this issue.”
He further added that, “The increasing environmental problems are adversely affecting the development and growth rate of developing countries in particular. A devastating flood in 2022 compounded the problems amid severe economic hardship. Developed countries should play a special role in helping developing countries overcome the negative impact of environmental problems on growth rates.”
“Following the establishment of the Loss and Damage Fund in COP 27, it is important to implement the commitments to provide resources. The Paris summit for a new global financial agreement is a message of hope for developing countries. Reforms in the global financial structure are necessary to provide resources to developing countries,” says PM Sharif.
Noting to which, Special Envoy, John Kerry agreed that the problem of climate change grows the risk for the developing nations. Both the leaders have agreed for maintaining the contacts and continue with the consultations for the joint efforts.
