Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, inaugurated the first national anti-polio campaign of 2023 by administering polio drops to the kids under the five years of age.
While addressing the ceremony on the occasion, PM Sharif said that, “together with all the parties, we will soon make Pakistan a polio-free nation. During this campaign, children below the five years of age group will be administered polio drops across the nation.”
The Prime Minister said that, “The recent floods in Pakistan also disrupted the polio campaign. Despite this, polio workers have fulfilled their duties and responsibilities for polio prevention with great determination and hard work.”
“Pakistan is, unfortunately one of the few countries in the world where polio cases are emerging,” said PM Sharif.
He further noted that, “Earlier during the reign of Nawaz Sharif, Pakistan was completely free from polio, but in the last few months, twenty cases of polio have been reported, but instead of spreading, it has been limited. They have sacrificed their lives for this great cause. History will always remember him in golden letters and his services will always be remembered.”
Meanwhile, PM Sharif added that, “I am sure that all the provinces along with the federation will work diligently to get rid of this epidemic and bury it forever.”
The Prime Minister said that the new cases of polio in Pakistan caused a wave of concern in Pakistan and the Ministry of Health sat down with us, including the World Health Organization, Bill Gates and other parties who have supported Pakistan in this campaign. The top officials are playing their role in this.
He said that, “he spoke to Bill Gates, he is grateful for his support, he is also grateful to the World Health Organization, and he is also grateful to the polio workers who are fulfilling their responsibilities with full determination. May Allah bless Pakistan forever with these efforts.”
“With the joint efforts of all parties, including the provincial governments, the Pakistan Army, and the Ministry of Health, we will soon be able to rid Pakistan of this problem. The Prime Minister also distributed shields among the polio workers on this occasion,” said PM Sharif.
