Dominica: Amid the high tensions across the Russia-Ukraine border, the Dominican government has expressed concern over the rising conflict and urged both to address the matter with diplomatic efforts.
According to a press release, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit of the Commonwealth of Dominica has said that deployment of the military will not benefit any of the nations.
The matter would be noxious to the world and will cause a threat to international peace and security. The Russia-Ukraine conflict would unprecedentedly harm the global communities. The whole world might witness global uncertainty during the crucial time of the armed conflict; this will indeed affect the social and economic impacts as well as political disagreements.
Through an immediate press release, Dominica has demanded a non-violent solution to end the conflict and urged to follow the path of peace and security.
The statement issued by the Office of Prime Minister read, “Dominica calls for secure a nonviolent resolution to the conflict and de-escalation dialogue to ease tensions; the charting of a path to peace for the safety and security of all.”
The potential leaders across the globe have been raising their voices against the tension as the war would, directly or indirectly, affect the whole world. But why the governments have been so concerned about the issue?
Ukraine holds an important place for the Soviet Union because it was the second most powerful country in the union, after Russia. Ukraine was also economically, culturally and strategically crucial.
Recently, according to the reports by the Ukraine government, Russia has deployed approximately 9000 troops at the border touching Ukraine. The US intelligence agency has represented the tensions on the border as a “major security crisis for the region” and claimed that this would surely increase the border conflict.
Dominica is very concerned about the situation along the Russian Federation-Ukraine border. We believe the issues relating to tensions between #Russia & #Ukraine need to be addressed through diplomatic efforts. A military solution will not redound to the benefit of any nation.

The tensions erupted since Ukraine split from the Soviet Union. Since the time of separation, both Russia as well as the West have been trying their best to influence the country to keep a ‘balance of power in their favour’. Another strong reason behind the tensions is that Ukraine is a ‘buffer zone’ for the USA and European Union, and because of the same, the US and EU have constantly been trying to keep Ukraine away from Russian control.
Since 2013, Ukraine has been dealing with various protests, which have brought a wave of demonstrations and civil unrest in the country. According to the Ukrainian government, the protests have been actively supported by the authorities of Russia, and the country’s paramilitaries have contributed in 15 percent to 80 percent of fighting against the Ukrainian government.
As per the present circumstances, Russia has been asking for an assurance by the US that Ukraine would not be added to NATO, but America is not sharing any comment. Russia is now ready with tens of thousands of troops to invade the neighbouring country. Russia has been incessantly increasing tensions at the border.
