The Lahore High court has granted bail to the President of the PTI, Parvez Elahi in a case related to the illegal appointment made in the Punjab Assembly.
It is to be noted that, he was taken into custody on June 1, 2023, Elahi, has faced series of releases and detentions, and has remained in the lock up ever since. Not just limited to this, but the former Chief Minister of Punjab during this period has also faced number of other legal challenges as well with the state’s crackdown on the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) that followed the May 9 protests.
The case pertains to the alleged illicit appointment of Muhammad Khan Bhatti as the principal secretary to the Chief Minister during Parvez Elahi’s tenure as the Chief Minister of Punjab.
Notably, Parvez Elahi is not freed from number of other cases, which he is named into.
LHC Justice Shehram Sarwar Chaudhry presided over the hearing while Advocate Amir Saeed Rawn and Farman Munis appeared as counsel for Parvez Elahi.
During the hearing, Advocate Rawn has informed the court that a judicial magistrate had discharged Bhatti from the case.
At the same time, he raised the argument that the notification about the appointment of Bhatti as the principal secretary had been issued by the Punjab Chief Secretary before Elahi assumed the role as the CM Punjab.
Subsequently, the court granted Elahi bail against surety bonds worth Rs100,000.
About the case
