Pakistan: Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan is facing overall 37 cases filed against him in different parts of the nation, including police, litigation, and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) cases. These proceedings have been initiated by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) against the chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party.
Out of these cases, Imran Khan is himself a petitioner in 19 lawsuits filed against government departments and individuals. The litigation status report of PTI chief, Fawad Chaudhry, has provided these details. Despite being involved in 37 cases, Imran Khan remains an influential political figure in Pakistan and has a significant following.
According to the report, the former prime minister has 21 First Information Reports (FIRs) registered against him. Eleven of these FIRs were registered on May 25, 2022, with an additional eight registered on May 26. The remaining three FIRs were filed later on August 8.
It should be noted that the mentioned list excludes newly filed cases against Imran Khan. Among all the litigation cases, five cases were filed by Khan against the Pakistan Federation, which are currently ongoing in the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
According to reports, Imran Khan has submitted two cases against the Election Commission of Pakistan, whereas two cases have been filed against him in the Islamabad High Court.
Imran Khan has filed a total of six cases in the Lahore High Court, four of which are against the Federation of Pakistan and two against the election commission. However, only two cases against Imran are currently in progress in the LHC.
There are three cases against the former Pakistani Prime Minister in the Islamabad District Court. Meanwhile, the Election Commission of Pakistan is actively pursuing five cases against Khan. These include the foreign funding case, removal of chairmanship case, KP helicopter case, and a contempt case for his use of inappropriate language against the commission and its chairman.
Imran Khan is facing a range of legal cases in Pakistan. The Federal Investigation Agency has registered 2 cases against him related to the cypher, while he faces three cases in anti-terrorism courts.
In a recent tweet, Khan claimed that he faces a total of 76 cases, including terrorism, blasphemy, and sedition charges, but expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of information provided in the sedition case.
