Debris covered glaciers could be the new landing site in the Planet mars.
Bizarre curved structures on a flat plain known as Arcadia Planitia resemble ice streams inside glaciers in Antarctica, according to researchers.
This region could potentially be a next crew mission to mars in these flat partially covered glacier type structures exist.
Already researches were being done on this plane by SpaceX and NASA as these could be potential space for landing the spacecrafts. It is also believed that there could be possible be the water sources if the ice existed not so below the plane structures.
A student at the University of Western Ontario in Canada said that the discovered flow-like features appear on flat land, they are unusual.
The researches also said that there are lot of evidences that this is a ice and water rich are but one thing odd about this is that they exist over the place surface.
Land forms that are a mystery
Arcadia Planitia lies in Northern lower land. From past 3 billion years, the active lava smoothed over the surface and hence this area has less craters as compared to that of the other parts of the planet.
Over the years, data was collected from the orbit of this region. It showed high presence of hydrogen in this area. Since water is made up of oxygen and hydrogen, hence presence of hydrogen suggests that there is water beneath these plane surface in the for of ice.
For many years, scientists have been seeing ice related features on mars. The lobate are the features of debris alongside the low hills. They appear to be glaciers covered with thin layer of rocks.
The Glaciers
The biggest mystery of mars are the sinuous features which appears to be created by the glacial flow but the planes are not steep enough to explain why the glacier flows.
These features appeared to be glacial in nature, according to the study. Other factors correlated with sluggish material seen on Mars appeared identical to the sinuous shapes.
Further studies has to be done to give a clear picture of what those structures are and how they are created.
