The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, has taken to his social media account to share an update regarding the installation ceremony of the fifth governor General of St Kitts and Nevis. Under Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew, the government of St Kitts and Nevis will have an installation ceremony for Marcella Liburd on Saturday, January 4, 2023. She occupies the office of the fifth governor-general of St Kitts and Nevis and is the first female to be sworn into this position.
Accordingly, Prime Minister Terrance Drew calls her installation ceremony historical. The Prime Minister noted in his social media post that the government would host the installation ceremony at the Government House in Basseterre St Kitts at 5:00 PM.
Prime Minister further stated that specially guests would attend the installation ceremony of Marcella Liburd. The guests list for the installation ceremony will include notable individuals from various strata of life and the cross-section of the community.
Marcella Liburd is an accomplished woman who has dedicated her life to the service of St Kitts and Nevis. The incumbent Governor General has served the government in several capacities, including:
- Teacher
- Senator
- Attorney at Law
- Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly
- Speaker of the National Assembly (She was the first female national assembly speaker in 2004 and served in the position of Speaker till 2008
- Minister of Health, Social Services, Community Development, Culture and Gender Affairs in the cabinet. On occasion, she also acted as the Prime Minister.
- First Female Chairperson of St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP)
She served as the deputy of the governor-general Tapley Seaton from August 15, 2022, to January 31 2023.
On February 1, 2023 exactly at 12:01 AM, she was sworn into the position of the fifth governor-general of St Kitts and Nevis. The swearing-in ceremony of Governor General Marcella Liburd was hosted in the presence of Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew and his cabinet ministers.
