The Pakistan Peoples Party Secretary Information responded to the statement made by the JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on holding elections. In the statement, Maulana could be heard mentioning about the worsening security situation.
The statement from the PPP Secretary Information, Faisal Kareem Kundi’s came after the JUI-F chief’s recent statement on the feasibility on holding elections amid a “deteriorating” security situation.
Moreover, this is not the first time that Rehman is expressing reservation about the polls. Even in one of the rally during the last week, Rehman highlighted his party’s readiness for the elections but emphasized the necessity of a peaceful environment to ensure voters’ safety while exercising their right to franchise.
In a reply to the remarks made by the JUI-F chief, Kundi shown surprise, adding that, “Maulana has a government in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and we are having no idea what feasible environment he is looking for.”
Kundi in the statement was referring the governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Haji Ghulam Ali, being a relative of Maulana Fazl.
He said that, “People who fear the verdict from the public court do not want elections to take place.”
Acknowledging that the elections are the only solution to the current issues of the nation, he added that the nation “believes that the chief justice will ensure elections on time” and claimed that the opponents fear the popularity of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
Considering the schedule for the election, he said that, “Across many regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Tank, Lakki Marwat, and his hometown, D.I. Khan. Even during the night time, unidentified armed police roam in streets instead of cops. Our workers are being killed. Can an election be held in such circumstances.”
While mentioning about the worsening security situation, the JUI-F leader added that, his party was ready to contest the elections and provided a safe and secure environment for the activity.
