St Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis- Dr Terrance Drew, is all set to pay his official visit to the Bahamas next week. He will meet Vice President of the United States- Kamala Harris.
He will join other presidents and the prime ministers of the Caribbean region in the meeting with the Vice President of the United States, Harris, on Thursday, June 8, 2023. PM Terrance Drew will visit the Bahamas to attend the United States- Caribbean Leaders meeting.
The meeting will be held in a partnership between Vice President Kamala Harris and Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, Philip Davis, who is the chairman of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).
The U.S. Embassy in the Bahamas issued a press release on the meeting and stated that the meeting builds on the previous meeting hosted by the Vice President with the Caribbean leaders in April 2022. The meeting was held at the June 2022 Summit of the Americas in Los Angeles and in September 2022.
The aim of the trip of Kamala Harris will be marked as the commitment of the Biden administration to enhance and strengthen the relations between the U.S. and the Caribbean region. The meeting will also put focus on ways to advance cooperation with the Caribbean. The meeting will also feature a discussion on the topics such as the upliftment of prosperity, security and the recognition of the common bonds and interests between the nations.
The meeting will discuss several aspects and issues, such as the climate crisis, including promoting climate resilience and adaptation in the Caribbean region and increasing energy security through clean energy.
The meeting builds on the U.S.-Caribbean Partnership will also address the Climate Crisis 2030, launched by the Vice President and Caribbean leaders in Los Angeles at the Summit of the Americas. The U.S. Vice President will travel to The Bahamas during Caribbean-American Heritage Month and will celebrate the longstanding people-to-people diplomatic relations between the Caribbean and the United States.
