The Second Round of the Pakistan and Belgium Bilateral Political Consultations (BPC) have taken place in the capital city of Islamabad on June 15, 2023. It is to be noted that, during the consultations, the delegation from Pakistan was led by the Ambassador Muhammad Saleem, Additional Foreign Secretary (Europe) while the delegation from the Belgium side was led by the Ambassador Jeroen Cooreman, Director General, Bilateral Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Belgium.
It is to be considered that the delegation from both the sides have reviewed the entire spectrum of bilateral ties and set the agenda for bilateral engagement and cooperation for the coming year. They also held discussions on the collaborations at the International forums, inclusive of the United Nations along with the significant regional as well as the global developments.
At the same time, during the meeting, the Additional Foreign Secretary have mentioned about the need for the continues high level engagement as well as the dialogue between Pakistan and Belgium. The officials from both the sides have made an agreement to make Bilateral Political Consultations a regular annual feature of bilateral engagement. During the meeting, it has also been decided that the next round of Consultations will take place in the capital city of Brussels following year at mutually convenient dates.
Moreover, it has also been considered that the year of 2023 has marked the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic ties between Pakistan and the Belgium. Meanwhile, the officials from the Pakistani side have extended that, “Pakistan is and will remain committed to further boost, expand and deepening the relations with Belgium.” They have assured that Pakistan remains committed to bolster ties with Belgium mainly in the areas of trade, investment, academic as well as the cultural cooperation, tourism along with the labour mobility.
