Jamat – E- Islami (JI) has continued to express their disappointment and dissatisafaction with the increasing prices and cost of living. The Religio-political party is not happy with the increased tarrifs due to the newly announced budget.
Ever since, the leadership of the political party has been sitting in protest in Rawalpindi. The leadership of the political party has announced in their latest media interact that their opposition of the increased prices will continue.
The leader of the Jamat e Islami, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman said, increased power tarrif and new taxes prescribed in the budget are a cause of concern for them. The government of the province formed a negotiation committee for the protestors, after the religio-political party announced a sit in protest.
However, the protestors have refused to entertain the gesture of the leadership and continue to protest. JI leader, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman had originally announced the sit in protest in Islamabad to protest the increased prices and inflation.
JI has demanded that the protest is a call for the government to reduce power tariffs. At the same time, the government must also review their agreement with the independent power producers.
As part of the protest, the district administration had closed the red zone of the capital city, Islamabad. The Red Zone consists of all the prominent buildings, government buildings and diplomatic conclave.
They used shipping containers to close th roads leading to the red zone, thus making movement difficult.
The protestors had to enter the city through alternative routes. The spokesperson of the political party, Aamir Baloch has come forward to comment on the situation.
He said that the protest will continue till the government is ready to accept their demands to enact significant reduction in the prices of electricity.
The administration of the country has clarified that they are ready to talk with the leadership of JI and find a solution. Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said that they want to ensure that the protest do not affect public life any longer.
Further, they have shared that the three member negotiation party is ready to discuss the situation and reach an amiacable agreement. On the other hand, the JI Spokesperson has claimed that they will continue their protest and denied to talk to the negotiators.
According to Aamir Baloch, JI chief Rehman would join the sit-in at Zero Point on Saturday. This is where the future course of action will be decided from.
