Coca Cola Pakistan has partnered with the government of Gilgit Baltistan to work towards Plastic-Free Gilgit-Baltistan Program. The aim of the partnership is to make sure that the province is not plagued by large amounts of plastic.
The team of Coca Cola Pakistan has shared that they have injected an investment of PKR 30 million to the project. The company, in collaboration with the bottling partner, Coca-Cola Icecek Pakistan will work with the provincial government.
They plan to install two crushing and baling facilities in the Shigar and Ghizer Districts to recycle PET plastic bottles. Through this partnership, Coca Cola Pakistan will also help the government to install waste collection points.
Further, they will come together to start a awareness campaign about the environment friendly disposal of plastic. The government has been working hard to male the people of the various communities aware about the dangers of plastic use.
The two organizations have come together organize a collection and disposal drive within the communities of Gilgit Baltistan. The Chief Secretary of the Province of Gilgit-Baltistan inaugurated the first crushing and baling facility.
He was accompanying the and Coca-Cola’s Director of Public Affairs at the time of the inauguration in Shigar City. The venue for the installation of the first crushing and baling facility of the province is situated near the Karakoram Mountain range.
The Government of Gilgit Baltistan teamed up with coca cola to organize a collection drive while the team trekked up to Upper Kachura lake.
The officials shared that the collection drive was highly successful as they were able to collect waste and encourage people to dispose of their waste responsibly. Many shopkeepers and small business owners were grateful for the opportunity to learn more about waste management.
Gilgit Baltistan is a largely tourism dependent economy and plastic usage and waste management has been a serious concern for the people of the community. The partnership between the Gilgit Baltistan Government and Coca Cola Pakistan will run for 2 years.
