“I would like to express my regret for the inconvenience our citizens suffered because of the power outages in Pakistan,” says Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday following the power outage yesterday.
He took it to his official social media handles to express regret over the inconvenience suffered by people, adding that, “On behalf of my government, I’d like to extend my sincere regrets for the inconvenience our citizens suffered because of the power outages that took place yesterday.”
Meanwhile, PM Sharif has also ordered an inquiry into the above said matter to check the reasons of the power failure. Noting which, he said that, “On my orders, an inquiry is underway to check and determine the reasons of the power failure. Responsibility will be fixed.”
Notably, a power outage around major cities of Pakistan, including Karachi, Quetta, Islamabad, and Lahore, took place on Monday. However, electricity has not been completely restored, due to which, companies, firms as well as lives of around 2.20 million people is almost at a standstill.
As per reports, “The power outage lasted for over 16 hours, mainly when temperatures were forecasted to fall at around 4 degrees Celsius in the city of Islamabad and around 8 degrees Celsius in the city of Karachi.”
The power outage took place after a technical issue was reported in the transmission line from Guddu to Quetta, which has caused the reduction of the power frequency from the optimum level.
Moreover, Islamabad Electricity Supply Company (IESCO), which has provided electricity to Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, and Chakwal, said that the power supply to 117 grid stations of its company had been suspended.
At the same time, IESCO took it to their official Twitter handle, adding that, “Power supply to 117 grid stations of ISCO has been suspended yet no proper reason has been given by the Regional Control Center.”
It further added that, “ISCO management is in constant communication with the concerned authorities.”
