It added that it would talk with its riders and partners in the 5 cities on how to use & smoothly transition to Careem.
The statement has added that, “When we acquired Careem, it was always our belief that the two(2) companies could come together to complement each other’s strengths and better serve the region through tailored experiences.”
The company has added that it was aware this was a “tough time” for its teams, which had worked very hard to build this business over the past few years.”
The statement mentioned that, “We greatly appreciate everyone’s contributions & our priority is to reduce the impact on our employees, drivers, riders & Hero partners who use the Uber app during the change in Karachi, Faislabad, Islamabad, Multan and Peshawar.”
Uber had completed its addition of rival Careem in 2020 for $3.1 billion. It was said at the time that Careem & Uber would continue to offer their respective regional services and continue operations as independent brands.
With the finalisation of the deal, Uber had acquired Careem’s mobility, delivery, and payments businesses across the greater Middle East region, with major markets including Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
