On Monday, Karachi had its first winter rainfall, with mild to heavy rain falling in various parts of the city.
A powerful westerly weather system was expected to hold most of the country on Sunday, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), and might last until Tuesday. Rain (with isolated heavy rainfall) was forecast in most parts of the country, including Sindh and Balochistan, due to the system’s effect.
Quaidabad and Gulshan-i-Hadeed each received 5 mm of rain, according to a new forecast released by the Met Department today. Surjani Town received the most rain, with 4.5mm, followed by Kemari and PAF Masroor Base with 4mm. Rainfall totaled 3.8mm on University Road, 3.4mm on Jinnah Terminal, and 3.2mm on North Karachi.
Today will be “cloudy with intermittent rain and chances of a thunderstorm,” according to the prediction, while Tuesday will be “partly cloudy with chances of light rain.” On Wednesday, though, “good” or clear weather is forecast to return.
Today’s forecast calls for a maximum temperature of 22 degrees Celsius and a low temperature of 16 degrees Celsius in Karachi. The city is expected to reach a maximum temperature of 24°C and a low temperature of 12°C over the next two days.
Meanwhile, Karachi Electric (KE), the city’s main electricity utility, tweeted at 10:30 a.m. that all power plants were operating normally.
“Areas [where power was restored after rain] include Gulshan-i-Askari, Rangers Headquarters, Scheme 33, Jiwani Heights, Sindhbad, PECHS Block 2 and 6, FB Area lock 7,12,15, and 18, Korangi Area, and others.”
“Other places that have been entirely restored include Gulshan-i-Iqbal Block 10A, Gulistan-i-Johar Blocks 9 and 18, as well as various Defense areas,” according to the statement.
According to KE, restoration work is moving quickly in several parts of the city, and power will be restored soon.
People should keep a safe distance from electricity infrastructure and take measures when using electronic equipment if it rains, according to the power company.
Meanwhile, traffic police advised motorists to drive carefully because rainwater had accumulated on the following arteries: Tibet Center towards Regal Chowk, Saeed Manzil, and Gul Plaza; Club Chowk, Ankle Saria towards Tanker Chowrangi, Khajoor Chowk, Allah Wali Chowrangi towards Tariq road, MR Kiyani chowrangi, Jail road, FTC (Shahrah-e-Faisal) towards Nursery,
Snarl-ups were also reported at Shahrah-e-Faisal, Drigh Road, Jail Road, Gurumandir, Site Area, Club Chowk, Tibet Centre, Tower, Anklesaria Chowk, Hassan Square, FTC, Shaheen Complex, Lilly Bridge, Korangi bus stop, Soldier Bazar, Airport Road, and Khajoor Chowk, according to the authorities.
