West Indies: The West Indies Cricket Board (CWI) will engage with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Thursday to examine whether or not to withdraw the remainder of the current tour after five more members of the touring party, including three players, tested positive for Covid-19. The meeting will take place in Kingston, Jamaica.
Several hours before the third T20 International, which is set to begin in Karachi, the CWI said that the boards of directors were meeting to “consider whether the trip can proceed.”
According to the schedule, the West Indies will also play three one-day international matches in Pakistan.
Following testing on Wednesday, wicketkeeper Shai Hope, spinner Akeal Hosein, and all-rounder Justin Greaves, as well as assistant coach Roddy Estwick and physician Akshai Mansingh, were all found to be positive.
According to the Caribbean Women’s International (CWI) statement, “all three players will consequently miss the future matches and all five people will continue to be isolated from the rest of the West Indies group.”
“They will be kept in isolation for 10 days or until the PCR test results come back negative,” says the doctor.
Prior to their arrival in Pakistan, Sheldon Cottrell, Roston Chase, and Kyle Mayers, all-rounders from the United States, had all tested positive for the virus. A member of the West Indies staff who was not involved in coaching had also tested positive.
West Indies will also be without hitter Devon Thomas, who suffered a finger injury in the first Twenty20 encounter against New Zealand.
Pakistan enjoys a commanding 2-0 lead in the Twenty20 international series.
