The caretaker Interior Minister Senator Sarfaraz Bugti on Friday has resigned from the federal cabinet citing ‘personal reasons.’
It is to be noted that, Balochistan Caretaker Minister for Sports and Culture, Nawabzada Jamal Raisani as well as the Adviser to the Chief Minister on Mines and Minerals, Mir Umair Muhammad Hasni, have also resigned from the Interim provincial cabinet on Friday.
Sarfaraz Bugti submitted his resignation to the caretaker Prime Minister, Anwar ul Haq Kakar on December 13. Whereas the reason behind resignation is not yet disclosed.
At the same time, some reports are citing that Bugti revealed that he is resigning from the cabinet with an intention to contest the upcoming general elections.
Sources claimed that he had resigned before issuance of the election schedule as under the law, the members of a caretaker set-up cannot participate in the elections.
It is to be specifically mentioned that, Sarfaraz Bugti belongs to the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) and had been elected as a senator from Balochistan in 2021.
Sarfaraz Bugti had earlier served as the Interior Minister for Balochistan after winning the election in 2013. He won as an independent candidate, but later joined the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
As the Interior Ministry is responsible mainly for the security arrangements for both the elections and the poll campaign, the timing of the resignation raises questions over its impact on security.
Whereas, others, who submitted their resignation along with Bugti, including Raisani announced taking part in the upcoming elections.
And, Hasani also submitted his resignation to Chief Minister Mir Ali Mardan Domki, which he accepted.
Hasani said that, he resigned from advisership for some personal reasons. Notably, the elections will take place on February 8, 2024, and the preparations for the elections are already going on.
All the parties are currently engaged in hosting their election campaigns, including the public meetings.
