Rawalpindi: Blacklisted US citizen Matthew Craig Barrett on Tuesday argued before Rawalpindi district magistrate that he entered Pakistan after his visa was approved. The court handed him over to FIA on a three-days physical remand for further investigation, reported 24 News.
Matthew Craig Barrett and his alleged supporters Raja Asif along with his son Constable Ehtashamul Haq were booked in an FIR on August 6th. Barrett- the US national- had managed to get entry into Pakistan at the Benazir Bhutto International Airport.
Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar earlier in a meeting decided that the visas of foreigners entering into Pakistan shall be approved by the interior ministry. He was presiding over a meeting to review the situation after the issue of blacklisted US citizen came up.
According to the report, an officer deputed at the Pakistan Consulate in Houston issued visa to Barrett within 24 hours without reviewing the records. Furthermore, the FIA officer working at the immigration counter at Islamabad’s Benazir Bhutto International Airport was also held responsible for the security breach.
