Islamabad (24 News): The 5th edition of the Islamabad Literature Festival (ILF) kicked off on Friday in the Margalla Hotel of the national capital, reports 24 News HD.
The three day event is organized by the Oxford University Press, and showcases a plethora of books and writings by some of the top national and international authors. The ILF also features academic debate and discussion sessions for the consumption of the public. A food court along side several stalls was set up for the entertainment of the public as well.
Opening speeches were delivered by the founders of the Karachi Literature Festival (KLF) and the ILF, Ameena Saiyid and Asif Farukhi. Keynote speeches were then delivered by the renowned academic and social activist, Dr. Arfa Sayeda Zehra, and later by the versatile Indian lawyer cum author, A. G. Noorani.
A thought provoking Mushaira and a captivating theatrical performance captured the attention of the audience, and both features were successful in delivering their underlying messages.
The scheduled events for Sunday include keynote speeches by Iftikhar Arif, Nafisa Shah, and Omar Shahid Hamid. A dramatic reading of Allama Iqbal’s Shikwa Jawab e Shikwa will also be featured. The icing on the cake will be a classical Kathak Dance performance by Shayma Saiyid.
A few of the Book launches scheduled for the event include ‘Kalaam e Aarifaan: Poetry of Mystics and Sufis compiled by Hasan Aziz’, ‘Uss ko Ik Shakhs Samajhna tou Munasib hi Nahin’ by Nasir Abbas Nayyar, ‘The Corporate Governance Landscape of Pakistan’ by Sadia Khan, ‘The Aleph Review-Taufiq Rafat: Defining the Pakistani Idiom’ by Ilona Yusuf and Mehvash Amin, ‘Teesra Qadam’ by Nasira Zuberi, ‘Crimson Papers: Reflections on Struggle, Suffering, and Creativity in Pakistan’ by Harris Khalique, and ‘Intikhab’ by Khalida Hussain, Masood Ashar and Asif Farrukhi.

The event features a number of author signings as well, along with a book fair organized in conjunction with a number of literary houses in Pakistan. The event is not just a showcase of the academic brilliance blooming in many of Pakistan’s regions, it is also a cultural event which will highlight the contributions of people from various backgrounds. It also delivers a message of peace and harmony to the world.
