Web Desk: Indian National Congress Leader, Mani Shankar Aiyar has suggested that the best way to save convicted Indian Spy Kulbhushan Jadhav’s life would be a process of negotiations between India and Pakistan, 24 News HD reports.
Aiyar stated the above in context of the media storm in India regarding Kulbhushan’s recent conviction over plotting terror attacks across Pakistan and for his connections to Indian intelligence agency, RAW.
It should be noted that all political parties in India are riding the bandwagon of anti-Pakistan rhetoric ever since Jadhav’s conviction was announced to the public. The Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj, who upon Kulbhushan’s capture last year had disowned him and insisted that India had no connections to him, has recently claimed that Jadhav is infact ‘India’s son’, and that all avenues would be used to secure his release.
This contradiction in stance and statement can be attributed to the fact that Kulbhushan is an active Indian Naval Officer, and was captured with fabricated identification documents. The idea that Kulbhushan had no connections to India were therefore nullified. The Indian government is now under pressure from hard-line elements and members of their nefarious intelligence community to secure their ‘sons’ release.
It should be noted that the proximity of the general elections in India is playing a major role in the policies being adopted by various parties and leaders. The idea of securing Kulbhushan’s release would appease the extremist Hindu population of India, which looks to ‘Saffronise’ the entire country.
