Web Desk: Anti-Terrorist Court (ATC) granted bail to Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar in his last case and has been finally released from Karachi Jail , reported 24 News. He was charged in 39 cases, now he is set to be released from jail.
The final case was about providing medical facilities to the terrorists and gangsters at Dr. Asim’s Hospital. He and PPP’s leader Qadir Patel was granted bail today.
The ATC judge granted the bail to Akhtar and Patel against a surety bond of Rs 500,000 on the grounds that the Sindh High Court has already granted the bail to other accusers in the same case. The release orders were issued after the submission of surety bond by both individuals.
Mayor Karachi Waseem Akhtar along with his wife thanked the people of Karachi for their unconditional support and love given to him while he was in jail.
Karachi Mayor was arrested on July 19, 2016 when Anti-Terrorist Court rejected his bail application in the same case.
Around 30 of the 39 cases pending against him are related to listening and facilitating of the speeches of MQM’s founder Altaf Hussain. Some eight cases are in connection with violence in Karachi on May 12, 2007.
Earlier, Akhtar was granted bail in 38 cases, while four people, including the prime suspect in the case Dr Asim Hussain have already been granted bail in this case.
Other co-accused in the case Rauf Saddiqui, Anees Qaimkhani and Usman Moazzam had been granted bail by the Sindh High Court, whereas Saleem Shahzad has been declared an absconder in the case.
MQM-Pakistan leadership has started the preparations to welcome Karachi Mayor. Large number of workers has started to gather outside the residence of Farooq Sattar. The party leaders and workers will go to Central jail in a rally to welcome Waseem Akhtar.
Meanwhile, MQM supporters and followers have started the celebration on social media.
