Rawalpindi: Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad reached Committee Chowk Rawalpindi and talked to media despite road blockades, containers and heavy deployment of police. As per latest reports police have started shelling and using teargas to disperse the protesters around Lal Haveli residence of AML chief, reported 24 News.
Sheikh Rasheed had announced to stage a protest today (Friday) in Rawalpindi in which PTI chief Imran Khan was also set to participate. Heavy contingents of police were deployed around Rasheed’s Lal Haveli residence in Rawalpindi on Thursday night in order to arrest him prior to the protest.
However, Sheikh Rasheed could not be arrested and he reached the Committee Chowk area today as he had promised earlier in the day. With a cap on his head and cigar in his hand, Rasheed reached Committee Chowk in a unique style on a motorcycle.
Later in a tweet Sheikh Rasheed said that the final showdown on November 2 is still left. It was just a trailer today.
Meanwhile it has been learnt that some PTI workers have been successful in their effort to reach Bani Gala residence of PTI chief Imran Khan. According to initial reports Imran Khan alongwith key PTI leaders and workers has been restricted to his house.
It is still not known whether a protest will be held in Rawalpindi today and will Imran Khan be able to join the protest amidst crackdown on political workers.
